lcso grants news story 01.13.10 The liberty county sheriff’s department has been awarded a $121,835 grant for TECHNOLOGY improvements. dennis odell, who is the county’s community development coordinator, said these funds are for the purchase of 18 digital dash cams for patrol cars plus a finger print and palm scanner. kshn reported back in september on two other grants totaling $87,890. those two grants were through the u.s. department of justice. the first was used to buy five 700-800 megahertz radios at a total cost of $16,959. the other grant, for $70,931, was for the purchase of 17 digital dash cams for patrol cars. dennis odell said while he functioned as the grant writer, it was former chief deputy ken defoor who INITIATED the efforts and current chief deputy jim cooper who carried the ball. now, the county has been awarded another $121,835 through the texas criminal justice division to continue those upgrades. that brings the total awarded to the liberty county sheriff’s department to $209,725 in state and federal dollars for IMPROVED technology through the addition of 35 digital dash cams, a fingerprint and palm scanner plus five new radios. |
