houston chevron marathon 01.19.10

more than 26,000 runners participated in sunday’s chevron houston marathon, including a contingency from liberty county. the day’s activities included the 26.2 mile marathon, the 13.1 mile half-marathon and the 5k or 3.1 mile run. topping the field of local contenders in the marathon was 43-year-old robert dunn of liberty. He finished the long-distance race in 3:15:40 – that’s his personal best. the co-owner of bj ford in liberty has now completed more than 35 marathons, including 15 years in a row in the houston race. Robert Dunn said he finished eight 26.2 mile events last year and plans to keep on running during 2010.

The second fastest marathon time among locals belonged to 28-year-old nathan blackwelder. although he currently lives in louisiana, nathan is a 1999 graduate of liberty high school and one of triplets sons of leon and cynthia blackwelder of liberty. nathan blackwelder was the starting center for the liberty panthers during both his junior and senior seasons in the late ‘90s. also finishing in a sub 4 hour time was 50-year-old patric elders of liberty, he finished sunday’s marathon in a TIME of 3:56:42. three women from dayton completed the 26.2 mile event. they are debbie blank, jamie snapp and ChRYSTAL jordan. the three marathoners from cleveland were randy horn jr, joyce rice and chris mcmahon. REPEATING, nine folks from liberty county completed the chevron houston marathon, led by 43-year-old robert dunn of liberty who finished among the top 5 percent of all runners in the 26.2 mile event. the youngest local marathoner was 20-year-old randy horn jr. of cleveland while the oldest finisher was 55-year-old Chris mcmahon – also of cleveland. in addition, 12 liberty county residents completed the half-marathon, and five locals did the 5k run.
