boomerang news story 02.06.10 we have reported EXTENSIVELY since 2008 on boomerang tube’s plans to locate its manufacturing facility in liberty. now, liberty city manager gary broz says the BUSINESS should be operational in coming months. "audio" as we previously reported, boomerang purchased the old national pipe and tube facility and has been making upgrades to that 489,690-square-foot building. in the meantime, local taxing ENTITIES have offered incentives to entice the company. for example, the city of liberty and liberty county offered tax abatements while liberty independent school district approved what is called a "payment in lieu of taxes" incentive. as part of the ARRANGEMENTS, the city of liberty will need to update INFRASTRUCTURE. that includes construction of a $2 million electrical sub-station expansion. when fully OPERATIONAL, officials say the new boomerang tube will use as much electricity as the entire city now uses. with that in mind, city leaders and boomerang officials have been NEGOTIATIng electrical rates and how the costs for the substation and any other INFRASTRUCTURE improvements will be recouped by the city. gary broz said those NEGOTIATIONS continue, and liberty city council will get more information on those issues at next tuesday’s meeting. "audio" in another recent development, boomerang tube secured $200 million in new funding through access industries, which has owned major shares in boomerang since 2008. "audio" access industries is a privately held u.s.-based industrial group with long-term investments worldwide. the firm’s holdings include lyondellBasell, also ICOn, and warner music group, to name a few. in another move that has helped the company, boomerang’s president and ceo gregg eisenberg said a recent decision by the international trade commission to impose duties on imports from china has COMPETITIVELY leveled the playing field in oilfield pipe and manufacturing. that makes production more FEASIBLE at this time. boomerang will INITIALly hire ABOUT 250 PEOPLE with plans to employ 350 when fully operational. THE COMPANY PROJECTS ANNUAL SALES OF $500 MILLION. currently, the city of liberty is working with boomerang to establish a favorable ELECTRICAL rate and ensure the costs of necessary infrastructure changes are recouped by the city over time. as we said, that issue will again be a topic at next tuesday’s city council meeting. in the meantime, $200 million of additional funding has prompted boomerang officials to say they will be operational by august. boomerang is home based in st. louis, missouri. |
