this past Monday marked a new day for credit-card holders - that was the date consumer protections kicked in that were laid out in the credit card accountability responsibility and DISCLOSURE act of 2009. debbie BRIDGEMAN, with the better business bureau office in beaumont, says while these new changes offer help, consumers still need to take PRECAUTIONS.

debbie bridgeman said changes include increased disclosures on how long it will take credit-card holders to pay off their bills if they only make the MINIMUM monthly payment.

THERE IS ALSO A NEW OPT-OUT OPTION AS PART OF THIS NEW LAW.

THE U.S. CREDIT BUREAU PREDICTS THAT IN 2010, THE NUMBER OF U.S. CREDIT CARD-HOLDERS WILL GROW TO 181 MILLION. ACCORDING TO A CREDITCARDS.COM SURVEY, 75 PERCENT OF CARD-HOLDERS ADMIT TO NOT READING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THEIR CREDIT CARDS. WITH THAT IN MIND, BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU RECOMMENDS THAT ALL CARD-HOLDERS FAMILIARIZE THEMSELVES WITH THE FINE PRINT AND REVIEW THE NEW PROVISIONS SET FORTH BY THE CREDIT CARD ACT OF 2009.
