kelley – more missing guns news story 08.11.10 the federal prosecutor who announced the grand jury indictments AGAINST liberty county sheriff’s captain harry leroy kelley is asking for the public’s assistance in locating other weapons that may have been stolen. kshn has reported liberty county sheriff’s captain harry leroy kelley was indicted by a federal grand jury on 107 criminal counts INVOLVING the theft of firearms, POSSESSION of stolen AMMUNITION and CONSPIRACY to commit mail fraud. harry kelley is alleged to have taken those firearms from the cleveland police department’s evidence room while he was a DETECTIVE with that department. during last thursday afternoon’s press conference in beaumont, u.s. attorney john bales said most of those indictments involve a weapon that has been recovered by investigators. however, the prosecutor said he BELIEVES other guns were stolen and he called on the public for assistance in locating those. "audio" that 107 count indictment released last thursday afternoon alleges 55-year-old harry leroy kelly, in his former capacity with the CLEVELAND police department, stole and traded weapons confiscated as evidence and held in the cleveland police department’s evidence locker. harry kelly made his initial appearance last thursday before u.s. magistrate judge keith giblin, pleading not guilty. his houston attorney, jack zimmerman, said they will fight the charges in court. however, if the accused is convicted, the u.s. attorney said the longtime lawman will likely go to federal prison.
