John Wayne Hardin of the Moss Bluff Volunteer Fire Department said the fire began around 10:30 p.m. when a roman candle ignited a lawnmower stored under the manufactured home owned by the Kaderli family on CR# 126 south of Moss Bluff. The fire did sufficient damage to the home for the family of four to take fire officials advice to stay elsewhere for the night. Later, Forest Kaderli returned from a trip to the grocery store to find the fire had rekindled, this time destroying the home and everything in it. It is not known if any of the losses were insured.DPS Trooper Marcus Dickerson said Calvin Marion Thomas III, 34, was northbound on FM 1409 just before midnight Wednesday when he lost control of his car. The vehicle slid in a ditch about 100 yards before striking a tree near the Westlake Volunteer Fire Station. The volunteer firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire that erupted under the car’s hood and Dayton Volunteer Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the Baytown man from his car.
